What is a retirement visa and who is eligible?

A retirement visa in Indonesia (commonly a Retirement KITAS) allows foreigners aged 55 or older to live in Indonesia long-term without working. Applicants must meet certain income, accommodation, and insurance requirements.

How much income is required for a retirement visa in Indonesia?

To qualify, retirees typically need to show proof of a minimum monthly pension or income of around USD 1,500 (subject to updates), plus additional financial support if applying with a spouse.

Can I work or open a business on a retirement visa?

No. The retirement visa is strictly for non-working foreign nationals. You cannot legally work, run a business, or earn income in Indonesia under this visa.

How long is the retirement visa valid in Indonesia?

The initial retirement KITAS is usually valid for 1 year and can be renewed annually for up to 5 years. Afterward, you may be eligible to apply for a permanent stay permit (KITAP).

Can I buy or own property in Indonesia with a retirement visa?

Foreigners cannot own land in Indonesia, but you can legally lease property on long-term agreements. Many retirees in Bali and other regions use this method to secure housing.
