What to Prepare before Getting Married in Indonesia Marriage Registry in Indonesia Indonesia has two types of marriage registry because of the two types of marriage ceremony. The Civil Registry is for non-Muslim couples and the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) is designated for Muslim couples. Pay attention that the marriage registry you engage in must have the authority according to your legal domicile. Legal Age to Get Married The Marriage Law in Indonesia stipulates that all individuals must be at least 19 years old in order to get married legally in the country. Proof of Single Status An individual must prove that they are single legally before they can marry their partner. A certificate of singlehood is required for people who are single; and a certificate of divorce is compulsory if the individual has divorced. Foreigners need to submit the certificate of non-impediment letter as well. Countdown Before you can conduct any marriage with your partner, the law requires you to wait for ten days. During the 10-day period, the registry will release the marriage intention notice to the public to see if there is any objection to your marriage. Prenup Agreement in Indonesia Signing a prenuptial agreement before a marriage in Indonesia has become more and more common. The prenup agreement is to secure the financial interests, assets, and other rights of both parties and to maintain the family’s peace and harmony in the future. For Muslim ceremony, a marriage guardian must fulfill certain criteria. With regard to witnesses, two marriage witnesses are compulsory for a legal marriage in Indonesia.
